Sal Brinton re-selected to fight Watford for the Liberal Democrats

12.00.00am GMT Thu 9th Nov 2006

At a packed hustings meeting in Watford, Sal Brinton was re-selected as Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Watford Constituency.

Constituency Chair Cllr Andy Wylie commented "We are delighted to have re-selected Sal as the Watford Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate. Watford Liberal Democrats know we have an outstanding local candidate, who is respected both here and nationally, and we believe Sal can and will win Watford for us at the next General Election.

In 2005 Sal increased the LD share of the vote by 93%, and her campaign saw a swing to the Lib Dems from Labour and the Conservatives of 13%. She now only needs 1149 votes to win.

Sal Brinton said "I want to thank the members of the Watford Constituency for putting their trust in me again. I believe that we will win Watford next time, and I am thrilled to be able to work with the brilliant team here to achieve the first Lib Dem MP for Watford. It's become clear over the summer with the Middle East crisis that Watford residents remain deeply unhappy with the Labour Government, and our stunning victory over the Tories in the Nascot by election in June shows that there is no Conservative revival. We must take every opportunity we can over the coming months to tell them of the difference that the Liberal Democrats can make."
