Claire Rayner to speak at GBTF fringe meeting in Blackpool11.47.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sat 25th Jun 2005 Fair Votes, Fair Share?
Claire Rayner, celebrated Agony Aunt and well-known writer, is to speak at a fringe meeting hosted jointly by the Gender Balance Task Force, Fawcett Society and the Electoral Reform Society. Claire, who is also Vice President of the ERS, said that she was delighted to be combining two of her passions and commitments at this fringe meeting - the need for electoral reform and her support for the Liberal Democrats. Angela Harris, Chair of the GBTF said 'I am very excited that Claire is able to attend. She is a popular and lively speaker, and always immensely entertaining. The issue of Electoral Reform is one which Liberal Democrats hold dear, and it is fitting that we should be discussing and promoting fairer voting systems, as well as working with women to achieve success under the current system. There is overwhelming evidence to demonstrate that a fairer voting system would result in a more representative Parliament, and this has to be our ultimate goal.' Chaired by Sandra Gidley MP and featuring speakers Lynne Featherstone MP, Sue Tibballs from the Fawcett Society and Christine McCartney, Women's Officer for the ERS the fringe will take place on Tuesday 20th September at 1pm at the Oak Lea Hotel in Albert Road. Refreshments to be provided - all welcome! Related Link:
