Cardiff West Liberal Democrats have unanimously selected Alison Goldsworthy to be their candidate at the next General Election.

Alison is an experienced political campaigner having led the Liberal Democrats Youth and Student Group, co-ordinating campaigns such as those against the Iraq War, to scrap tuition fees (www.scraptuitionfees.com) and to stop top-up fees. Alison was a candidate for the Welsh Liberal Democrats at this year's European Election, helping to increase their share of the vote.

Alison Goldsworthy said: "I'm delighted to have been chosen to stand in Cardiff West. The

Liberal Democrats are a growing force in Cardiff. Our success in the local elections shows that it is the Welsh Liberal Democrats who provide the effective opposition to Labour. It is only the Welsh Liberal Democrats who have shown continued growth in the constituency, increasing our share of the vote at the last two national elections."

Alison, 21, will be one of the youngest candidates to stand in the general election anywhere in the UK. She was born in South Wales and lives in Cardiff.

Cllr Roger Burley, who represents Caerau said: "Alison will help us build on the successes we have had; cementing our position in Caerau and doubling our representation at the local elections. We have already received a boost with former local police chief Tony Davies joining our team in Ely. Alison will be an excellent candidate who will make sure we keep moving forward. I am looking forward to working with her."
