Huge Success on Training Day4.10.17pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 6th Sep 2004
Nine women from across the country attended the "Confident Communication for Women" training day on Saturday 28th August. Covering various situations relevant to candidates and party activists, the module aimed to develop communication skills. Party trainers Candy Piercy and Sal Brinton led the course, which was well received by the participants. "Stimulating, informative and fun - these were my thoughts about the day! One of my greatest challenges as PPC in a key seat is to increase funds for our local campaigning by asking people for donations or standing orders - I find this difficult! It was reassuring to learn that I'm not alone but also to be introduced to some useful verbal openings to help me feel more comfortable. At the end of the day as well as having a better understanding of how to develop my own communication skills, I had learnt more about interacting effectively with my campaign team. If you get the chance in the future, it really is well worth going to one of these sessions. The training is excellent, it's great to meet other women and I'm sure you'll enjoy it!" Kathy Newbound, PPC Maidenhead Mary Varrall really enjoyed attending the course and "Great confidence boosting day with some excellent tips!" Jenny Kingsley, who is the first and only Liberal Democrat councillor in the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, found "the session extremely inspiring and constructive. It was well organised and helped to reinforce skills and nurture new ones. It was therapeutic, too! Hats off to trainers, Sal and Candy, and Debbie's brilliant organisation. A great day and a great way to meet more women in the party and share news and views". The GBTF are running a training day for women in Bournemouth on Saturday 18th September, and a full programme of training at the Party Conference.
