Liz Leffman selected as PPC for Witney2.38.24pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 12th Jul 2004
Liberal Democrats in Witney and West Oxfordshire have chosen their prospective parliamentary candidate for the next general election. She is Liz Leffman, a businesswoman who runs her own clothing and textile consultancy from her home in Charlbury, in the constituency. Liz was chosen from a three-strong shortlist by members of the constituency party. She received some two-thirds of the vote. "I am delighted to be able to represent the interests of the people of my community," she said after the result was announced. "I have been a campaigner with the Liberal Democrats for many years, both here and in London, and I look forward to a lively contest. "Liberal Democrats have always been prepared to stand up for the rights of individuals, and for a better quality of life for all, and that will be the theme of our campaign." Paul Slamin, LibDem constituency chairman, commented: "Liz Leffman is an excellent candidate. We had three outstanding contenders to choose from, and Liz stood out as the person we all want to lead our campaign."
